The Nasarawa State Police Command has launched a security operation to flush out bandits, kidnappers and other criminals from forest hideouts across the state.
Commissioner of Police Shetima Mohammed announced the operation on Tuesday at Alagye Forest in Doma Local Government Area, saying it followed a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
He said the operation would continue until the end of December, with tactical teams, anti-kidnapping operatives and intelligence personnel deployed to identified security flashpoints.
Mohammed said the state had been divided into three operational sectors covering the Lafia, Akwanga and Keffi zones to improve coordination and ensure effective coverage.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations Sanusi Jidda, who led the team into Alagye Forest, said intelligence reports indicated that bandits and kidnappers were using the area as a hideout.
He said the operation would extend to other forested areas in Akwanga and Toto local government areas.
Jidda urged residents to provide credible information on criminal activities, assuring them that such information would be treated confidentially.
