Lagos court convicts ex-banker over ₦1 million fraud
The Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has convicted former banker Chukwuebuka Nweke for unlawfully facilitating the withdrawal of ₦1 million from a customer’s account.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said in a statement that Justice Ismail Ijelu delivered the judgment on Monday.
The commission said Nweke accessed a desktop computer assigned to another employee without authorisation on June 21, 2025, facilitating the withdrawal from an account belonging to Leelee Dumbari.
Nweke pleaded not guilty to the charge and was tried, with the prosecution calling five witnesses and the defence presenting one.
The court sentenced him to pay a fine of ₦1 million within 30 days, failing which he would serve six months in a correctional centre.
