‘Why Darasi film didn’t go on break during Ramadan’

In the Hausa filmmaking industry, it’s a tradition to suspend film shooting or airing during Ramadan. Ironically, Huas TV series film Darasi didn’t go on break during this year’s Ramadan period.

This development had generated a lot of comments within the industry. However, the executive producer of the film, Alhaji Isma’ila Umar Muhammad, aka Dangote, revealed that suspension of film activities in the industry isn’t a formal regulation that requires strict adherence. According to him, it is good to go on break during the Ramadan fasting period for absolute devotion to God.

The young producer explained that the reason for showing Darasi even during Ramadan is because of the script.

Dangote said “Our script is quite different from others and our storyline is also different because it is an issue-driven storyline. It is a story that teaches a lot of moral lessons to educate people and we feel at a moment like this, there should be something that would encourage behavioural change for a better society.

“It is a story that tries to outline and educate the public on the importance of education in everyone’s life; it is a story that shows the bad side of being selfish and the aftermath of the getting rich quick syndrome.”

According to him, the film has delved into the life of an average youth in terms of living a fake life, adding that the story also emphasizes on the need to allow children choose the educational line they feel is best for them and not what their parents select for them.
