Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara on Saturday presented staff of office and official vehicles to the state’s 19 emirs as part of efforts to strengthen traditional institutions and grassroots administration.
The presentation formed part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of the creation of Zamfara State.
Speaking at the event, Lawal described the anniversary as a significant milestone in the state’s history and reaffirmed his administration’s recognition of traditional institutions as partners in promoting peace, stability and development.
He said traditional rulers played important roles in maintaining social order, preserving cultural values and fostering harmonious relationships among communities.
The governor urged the emirs to discharge their responsibilities with fairness, wisdom, integrity and compassion.
He also tasked them with strengthening collaboration with security agencies by providing credible information, mobilising community support and discouraging the protection of criminal elements.
Lawal said insecurity remained a major challenge, disrupting farming activities, displacing communities and destroying livelihoods.
He urged the traditional rulers to support efforts to restore agricultural activities and protect access to farmlands.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the remaining royal palaces across the state.
He said the vehicles presented included 2025 and 2026 models of Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, GAC GS8 vehicles and EV Antics.
Lawal assured residents that his administration would continue working with security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to ensure they could live, farm and trade without fear.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, was among the dignitaries who attended the event, which marked the end of activities for the state’s 30th anniversary.
