Governors of Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo have urged South-Easterners to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing his administration’s economic reforms and development projects.
The governors made the call on Saturday in Enugu at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Mega Rally and Empowerment Programme for the South-East.
The governors are Charles Soludo of Anambra, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, Peter Mbah of Enugu and Hope Uzodimma of Imo.
Speaking, Mbah urged the people to support Tinubu’s re-election to enable him to consolidate the gains of his administration’s economic reforms.
He attributed ongoing development projects, including the construction of primary healthcare centres, to the reforms and urged women to support Tinubu and APC candidates in the January 16, 2027, and subsequent elections.
“A good sailor does not abandon his ship mid-sea because of challenges. We must finish the journey we all started together,” he said.
On the empowerment programme targeting 5,000 women across the South-East, Mbah said it followed the empowerment of more than 2,000 women in Enugu within 48 hours.
He said beneficiaries received cash support, assistance with hospital bills and tools to help them generate income.
Uzodimma described the rally as historic and commended First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for empowering women across the region.
He said the South-East had experienced marginalisation for more than 60 years but was beginning to witness greater political inclusion and development under Tinubu.
“We are now seeing good roads, electricity, health reforms as well as educational reforms in the country. A winning team must not be changed,” he said.
Uzodimma added that the Federal Government’s economic reforms had increased the resources available to states for development.
Nwifuru commended the APC-led administration’s skills acquisition and empowerment initiatives, urging women to vote for the party.
He described the APC as the only party with a clear manifesto capable of sustaining the country’s development and dismissed suggestions that he was involved in any political coalition, saying his loyalty remained with the party.
Soludo, represented by his deputy, Gilbert Ibezim, said the South-East should support Tinubu’s re-election in recognition of his administration’s achievements, adding that the region stood to benefit from continued collaboration with the Federal Government.
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, also urged Igbos to support Tinubu’s re-election, describing it as a step towards greater political inclusion.
