KW-IRS Releases 2024 Tax Quiz Competition Timetable

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, KW-IRS, has announced the commencement of the 2024 edition of the Annual Tax Quiz Competition.

It is the seventh edition of the highly educative event.

According to a Press Release sited at the Service’ Social Media handles, the Competition will be kicking off this year with the opening of the portals through which all interested schools can apply between Monday April 22 and Friday May 17

The Service will be deploying media platforms to highlight the criteria required and all the needed information on the 2024 edition of the competition in the days ahead.

The annual event is organised annually by the Service in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development ‘to nurture a generation of tax-compliant citizens and create robust taxation awareness in the growing population and at various stages.”

The preliminary stages of the 2024 edition will hold virtually across all registered schools in the State between Monday June 24th and Friday, June 28.

The annual tax competition, which is opened to all Secondary Schools in the state has continued to attract more participating schools since the advent of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq Administration.

While 142 Schools participated in 2021, the number of participating schools shot to a record 219 in 2022, while 231 schools participated in 2023.

The Overall Best School in the Competition wins the grand prize of N2.5 Million, the first runner up goes home with N1.5 Million while the second runner up has a cash prize of N1 Million.

The Coordinating Teachers of the winning schools also win cash prizes, while students that participate in winning the prizes for their schools are given cash prizes to support their educational pursuits once they communicate notices of admission into higher institutions of learning to the Agency.

In 2021, the overall winning Secondary School was Stepping Stone Secondary School, Ilorin. Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model College, Ilorin was the first runner up. The third prize went to Government Secondary School, Ilesha Baruba.

For 2022, Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model College, Ilorin. The second prize went to Mustapha Standard College, Off. Kwara State College of Education Model College, Oro was the second runner up.

In 2023, Stepping Stone College, Agbabiaka, Ilorin, emerged as the winner, while Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model College, Ilorin was the first runner up. Government Secondary School, Lafiagi came third.

The 2024 edition promises to be more competitive as more schools are now aware of the competition and the opportunities it offers, not only to winning schools, but also to students representing their schools.
