Hardship: Enugu gov flags off distribution of palliatives

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, on Thursday flagged off the distribution of more food items and directed the committee in charge of distribution to ensure the palliatives reach the vulnerable people across the state.

Mbah said at the event in Enugu that the palliative, mainly grains was to cushion the effect of the current economic hardship being experienced across the country.

He said his government initiated several programmes to eradicate poverty, including community and social development programmes as well as small and medium enterprise programme to empower people economically. 

“We want the palliatives to get to the indigent and the vulnerable people among us. We want it to get across all the 260 wards in the state. Do not politicise it. We have to make sure that it gets to the people in dire need of it,” the governor said.

“However, what we are witnessing here today is our short-term measure, what we refer to as a quick fix towards our promise to eradicate poverty and ensure zero hunger in our state. We have robust programmes in place, which will ultimately ensure that we eradicate poverty in Enugu State.”
