Margaret Atayi: ‘Murder cannot be ruled out’ – Father of lady found dead in Abuja claims

Patrick Atayi, father of the young Benue lady, Margaret Oyibo Atayi, who was found dead in Abuja, has described the death of his daughter as a mystery.

DAILY POST reports that Margaret, a mother of two, was found dead days after she was reported missing by her family.

However, contrary to the report that the young lady committed suicide over a failed marriage, the father, Atayi, told DAILY POST in an exclusive interview in his family house on Wednesday that the family is yet to ascertain the circumstances surrounding her death.

He said: “All I know is that presently, the family is bereaved. We cannot make a categorical statement yet until an investigation is carried out to reveal exactly what happened. At the moment, we don’t know what really happened. But when an investigation is concluded, the family can make a definite statement.

“Margaret was 27 years old and left two children behind. At the moment, the family is still trying to figure out what really happened. It is still a mystery to us. We have read many narratives in the media. I didn’t address any press. What they are putting out there is what I will call imaginative journalism.”

Asked if the late Margaret committed suicide or was murdered, Atayi said: “As I told you earlier, at present, one cannot make a categorical statement on what happened until an investigation is concluded because a murder case cannot be ruled out.

“But by the time the relevant authorities look into the matter and present their report to the family, then the family can make a categorical statement on what happened. But for now, we are not ruling out any possibility. It could be murder or suicide.”
