2026 WCQ: NFF President Gusau Confident Super Eagles Will Secure Group C Ticket

Ibrahim Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has expressed strong optimism that the Super Eagles will secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite a challenging start to their campaign.

The Super Eagles have only managed to gather three points from their first four World Cup qualifying matches, placing them fifth in Group C. They are currently four points behind the joint leaders, Benin Republic and South Africa.

To have a realistic chance of qualifying, the three-time African champions will need to win all their remaining six matches. Despite the difficult situation, Gusau remains confident about the team’s prospects.

“This is a very sad moment for Nigerian football, and we cannot run away from that,” Gusau told reporters. “What I can assure you is that we’re working tirelessly with the Sports Minister to make sure we take some holistic measures that will change the entire system.”

Gusau reassured fans that qualification is still within reach. “It’s still possible to qualify for the World Cup, and we’re going to make it.”

With critical matches ahead, the NFF’s commitment to overhauling the system and enhancing team performance will be crucial in the Super Eagles’ quest to secure their place at the 2026 World Cup.
