The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says over 250 people associated with drugs abuse have been arrested in Katsina State from January to date this year.

Similarly, 930 people ranging from 15 to 63 years were arrested in 2023, while 567 Kg of assorted drugs had been intercepted by the agency,

The State Commandant of the NDLEA, Alhaji Hassan Sani Abubakar, made the disclosure at a Cultural and Moral Sensitisation of Youth Council Against the Surge of Drugs and Cultism in the 11 LGAs of Katsina Central Senatorial District, saying out of the number arrested, 856 have been rehabilitated in which 50 of them are females.

He applauded the Senator’s action for organising the programme and the collaboration, adding that the NDLEA is proud of him.

A statement signed by the Media Aide to the Senator, Muhammad Lawal Gwanda explained that 110 youth selected from the 11 LGAs of the Senatorial District participated in the Programme.

The programme which was conducted at the Conference Hall of the State CSC was sponsored by Senator Abdul’aziz Musa Yar’adua which was to draw the attention of youth on dangers associated with drugs abuse and involve them in the crusade against the scourge socially and morally.

The Senator represented by his Senior Aide Alhaji Tanimu Garba Abdulkadir, explained that the sensitisation became necessary considering the escalation of drugs consumption amongst the youth, which in future would make them nuisance in the society.

The Senator charged parents to avoid overprotecting their children or wards, but always monitor their activities, particularly peer groups they associated with, and make them busy by involving them in their daily businesses.

Senator Yar’adua, however, restated his commitment to continue collaborating with the NDLEA and other related bodies in the fight against the surge of Drugs Abuse in the society.

He charged the participants to use this opportunity to educate those that were not opportune to participate in the programme.

Islamic Scholars like Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil K/Bai, Sheikh Muhammad Hadi Balarabe and Sheikh Dr. Aminu Abdullahi Yammawa presented Islamic lectures related to good, the bad, and the ugly.

At the end of the programme, each of the 110 participants received N30,000 for easy transportation back home.
