Remi Tinubu empowers 5,000 South-East women, defends president’s economic reforms

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has empowered 5,000 women in the South-East with equipment, saying President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms are gradually moving Nigeria towards prosperity.

She spoke on Saturday at the South-East flag-off of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Mobilisation Directorate and Presidential Women Campaign Council in Enugu.

The rally and empowerment programme were organised to mobilise support for the re-election of Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 general elections.

The beneficiaries received sewing machines, popcorn machines and grinding machines.

Addressing the women, Mrs Tinubu said the difficult phase of the Federal Government’s economic reforms was gradually giving way to prosperity, urging Nigerians to remain patient and support the administration.

“We are carrying out reforms that will bring prosperity to our children. Don’t let anybody deceive you. The difficult work is over. We are now stepping into prosperity,” she said.

She described the empowerment programme as evidence of the APC-led administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians, particularly women and vulnerable groups.

Tinubu also assured women of further empowerment initiatives to promote financial independence and economic inclusion.

She said 250 persons with disabilities would receive N200,000 each to start or support businesses on December 3, while another 250 people would be empowered on December 17.

She added that the initiatives would target 750 beneficiaries across the three senatorial zones of Enugu State.

The First Lady urged APC candidates seeking elective positions in 2027 to initiate programmes that would improve the welfare of women, youths and elderly persons.

She also called on women to support APC candidates at all levels, saying, “We are going to vote for APC from top to bottom.”

Earlier, Nkechinyere Mbah, wife of the Enugu State governor, commended Mrs Tinubu for supporting women, children and vulnerable families through the Renewed Hope Initiative.

Also speaking, the APC National Women Leader, Mary Idele, said women across the country were mobilising grassroots support to secure the party’s victory in the 2027 general elections.
