Plateau gov’ship tribunal: INEC, police submit voter register, election results

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Plateau State Police Command have presented voter register and election results of the selected polling units for the governorship election in the state to the Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Jos.

The chairman of the tribunal, Irele Ifeneh, had last week Monday during the commencement of hearing of the petition filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, against the state governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), ordered the INEC and police to bring to the court the said documents within one week.

The order by the court followed the inability of both the police and INEC to present the required documents as contained in the subpoena issued to them.

At the resumption of hearing, both INEC and the police complied with the directive of the tribunal and submitted all documents as requested by the petitioners.

An assistant director from INEC registry department, Festus Aisien, appeared before the tribunal on Monday and submitted the documents while Okon Omoren, an ASP, C.O legal officer of the police command, submitted election results.

The lead counsel to the APC governorship candidate and the APC, Professor Kayode Olatoke, had after the submission of the documents by INEC and the police proceeded with the case.
