Osun APC Disowns Former Governor Rauf Aregbesola

Eid-ul-Mawlid: FG Declares Monday Public Holiday

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially disowned former governor Rauf Aregbesola. This decision was announced by the party chairman, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, in a communiqué following a stakeholders’ meeting held at the state secretariat in Osogbo on Tuesday.

Chairman Lawal accused Aregbesola, who also served as the Minister of Interior, of engaging in various anti-party activities, including forming factions that undermined the party’s interests. He urged party members not to register with Aregbesola’s faction, stating it is not recognized by the Osun APC.

APC State Secretary Kamoru Alao reinforced this position, announcing that the party’s electronic membership registration would commence following the inauguration of the committee by National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje. “We are discouraging our members who are loyal party members not to register with Aregbesola’s group because Omoluabi as a group is not a member of our party in Osun State,” Alao said. “As far as we are concerned in Osun APC, Aregbesola is no longer a member of APC. We have notified the national secretariat of his distractions three times and expect them to take appropriate action.”

In response, Abosede Oluwaseun, Publicity Secretary of Omoluabi Progressives, dismissed the allegations against Aregbesola, asserting that when Aregbesola handed over APC’s affairs to his successor, the party structure was intact. He claimed attempts to suspend Aregbesola in his ward in Ilesa East Local Government Area had failed twice. “We are not distracted from our goal to reposition the APC and reclaim the state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2026,” Oluwaseun stated.
