Gov Sule meets APC stakeholders over assembly crisis

Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule, yesterday met with critical stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state with a view to addressing the lingering crisis bedevilling the state house of assembly.

The governor presided over the meeting at the Government House, Lafia, the state capital.

Daniel Ogazi and Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, both of the APC, emerged as speakers of the assembly at different sittings, a development that led to the sealing of the assembly premises by the police.

In his opening remarks, Sule explained that the main purpose of the meeting was for the party to brief the stakeholders on the state of affairs and put to rest the contentious issues in the party.

He said, “The main purpose of the meeting is for the party to brief us on the state of affairs and I think it’s an excellent initiative that the party is able to take. 

“Like everyone so far has said, it’s a family, and the family, from time to time, needs to brief itself about what is happening. Good or bad, we would be able to know what is happening in order for us to have a sense of direction. 

“That is why we are a family. There is no family that is trouble-free; there is no family that won’t have one kind of misunderstanding or the other. It’s normal to have those, and it’s normal to scale through once you are having these kinds of issues.”

The governor apologised to stakeholders who didn’t get invitations on time and could not attend, and appreciated all those who were able to attend the meeting, particularly the APC national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and a former governor of the state, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura. 

Addressing newsmen shortly after the parley, state chairman of the APC, Chief John Mamman, said the meeting considered the unity of the party with a view to bringing every member on board.

He said, “We explained the state of affairs in connection with the inauguration and constitution of the leadership of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly. We have deliberated, and as a family, we all agreed that since the matter is in court, it’s only the court that can decide.

“As far as we are concerned, we don’t have much of a crisis in APC as it is. The issue has to do with the constitution of the leadership of the house. By God’s grace the matter will soon be over.
