Fubara appoints 8 commissioners, charges them on loyalty

Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed and administered oaths of office to eight new commissioners, charging them to ensure loyalty to the state and not any individual.

The commissioners were sworn in Tuesday night after they were screened by the factional Rivers State House of Assembly.

The eight commissioners that took oaths of office are Honourable Prince Charles Bekee, Barrister Collins Onunwo, Honourable Prince Solomon Abel Eke, Dr Peter Medee, Honourable Elloka Tasie Amadi, Honourable Basoene Joshua Benibo, Tambari Sydney Gbara, and Dr Ovy Orluideye Chinendum Chukwuma.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Fubara urged them not to be like the former commissioners loyal to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, who recently resigned from his cabinet. He said the former commissioners ran their ministries without keeping records.

“Your position as a commissioner today is not just for you to answer to me. It is to work for the interest of our state,” he added.
