Ex-Abia commissioner, Edo guber aspirant quit PDP

A former commissioner in Abia State, Ike Anyatonwu, and a gubernatorial aspirant in Edo State, Felix Akhabue, have resigned their membership in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the wave of resignation that has hit the party in the last few days from the South East and South South geopolitical zones continues.

Anyatonwu, a former Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Abia State Chapter, served in the cabinet of the immediate past governor of the state, Okezie Ikpeazu.

In a letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of the party in Okporo Ahaba Ward 10 in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, Anyatonwu thanked the party for the opportunity to serve and wished the party success in their future endeavours. He, however, did not state his next destination, but sources close to him said he would be joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

When contacted, the acting publicity secretary of the party in the state, Abraham Amah, said the party does not have an immediate comment but would address the media soon.

In a related development, ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, Akhabue, a chieftain of the party who was one of those who contested for the party’s ticket, has resigned from the party.

Akhabue, in a letter to his chairman in Ward 7, Esan West local government of Edo State, hinged his resignation on alleged prejudicial activities against him by the leadership of the PDP.

His resignation comes one week after a member of the party’s board of trustees, Charles Idahosa, also resigned from the party.
