Zulum seeks FG’s support to return refugees from Chad, Niger, Cameroon

The Borno State governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, has called on the federal government, through the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) and federal lawmakers to support his effort at returning home Nigerian refugees from neighbouring countries.

Zulum made the call when he received the chairman, House of Representatives Committee on North-East Development Commission (NEDC), Usman Zannah, his members and the managing director of the commission, Mohammed Alkali, on a courtesy visit in Maiduguri on Friday.

The governor explained that thousands of Borno indigenes taking refuge in Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic were willing to return to their ancestral homes to cultivate farmlands.

“I want to plead to you (lawmakers) as well as NEDC to support the Borno state government in ensuring the resettlement of the IDPs and refugees to Nigeria.

“What we want is to see our people earn their means of livelihood by themselves; and the only solution is for them to go back to their ancestral homes and start cultivating their lands.”
