Windstorm destroyed 35 houses in Imo, says NEMA

Last weekend’s windstorm that swept through Umuejem village, Obinze community, in Owerri West Local Local Government of Imo State displaced 575 people and destroyed 35 houses and business premises.

That was the finding of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Thursday during an assessment tour of the affected village.

The Nation on Sunday reported the incident, which left one person dead and three others injured.

However, briefing reporters on Thursday, NEMA officials led by the Acting Head of Imo-Abia Operations Office, Mr. Chidi Ogundu, confirmed the casualty rate and expressed shock at the level of havoc the windstorm caused.
