‘Why there’s unstable power supply in Kano’

By Fanen Ihyongo, Kano

Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) on Thursday gave reason why the state is experiencing unstable power supply within its franchise areas in recent times.

KEDCO blamed the epileptic power supply on unauthorised connections by electricity ‘thieves’ whose data are not captured by the electricity company.

It urged customers to report illegal connections and vandalism of KEDCO installations. It raised the hope that “everything” will be fixed for adequate power supply.

KEDCO’S explanation followed a flurry of complaints from customers over unstable power supply, low current and rampant transformer failures.

KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, in a statement said: “The power supply instability is a result of overload on transformers through illegal connections to feed people who are not recognised in KEDCO’s distribution network.

“The activities of this group that has not been captured as genuine energy consumers, sabotage efforts to give customers full current.”
