‘They are afraid of probe’, Imo PDP hits 7 SWC members who defected to APC

The Financial Secretary of the Imo state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Bede Ejimmadu, on Monday alleged that the seven members of the executives of the PDP, who resigned last Sunday, did so because they were afraid of being indicted by a committee investigating the alleged mismanagement of the 2023 Presidential campaign fund to the tune of N1.4billion.

Daily Trust had reported how the former PDP members renounced their membership of the party while accusing Senator Samuel Anyanwu, governorship candidate of the party in the November election, of witch hunt.

But addressing newsmen in Owerri, the state capital, alongside other party executives, Ejimmadu said, “They are just trying to run away from being indicted but that will not save them. The report will soon be completed and made known to the public.

“Among the issue is the over N1.4 billion campaign fund sent to Imo state during the presidential campaign in the state. The money has remained unaccounted for, a committee was set up and investigating the way the monies coming into the party were spent and before you know it, they resigned their positions in the party.

“I want to say this, My office as the financial secretary, did not receive any money because some people who felt they are bigger than the party usurped my position and they misappropriated party fund.

“The seven members of the party took their overdue stay in the party and exited. Their exit is not a concern of the party. It is the legitimate right they have left. It is not the first time. The option left is to find capable hands to replace them.  On the issue of accountability. We are talking about the state secretary, state treasurer and the state deputy chairman. They left because of fear of indictment.”

Anyanwu had described the seven members of the State Working Committee, who left the party as “enemies within”.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri on Monday, Anyanwu through his Media Aide, Ikenna Onuoha, said, “It’s better for God to expose your household enemies and save you from their planned destruction than to be consumed by it under your nose.”

“Imo PDP still remains intact and unshakable. Our party is even waxing stronger by the day with the gradual exit of some moles who did not mean well for the guber candidate.”

“There is nothing wrong in an individual leaving a party. It is a normal thing in modern politics. But to think of the party losing ground because of their exit is lies from the pit of hell. Imo PDP is still very strong and intact with or without them. The party will simply look for genuine and more capable persons to fill in the space.”
