The Senate on Tuesday adjourned plenary till today, over the death of two members of the House of Representatives – Haruna Maitala and Suleiman Aliyu Lere.

But, the House of Representatives adjourned plenary for seven days in honour of the two lawmakers, who died during the Easter break

The upper chamber observed a minute silence in honour of both lawmakers.

The decision to suspend plenary in the Senate was carried out in line with the tradition of the National Assembly, following a motion moved by the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

The upper chamber, thereafter, held a minute silence in honour of the deceased lawmakers before adjourning plenary till today.

In the House of Representatives, the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, who announced the adjournment at the resumption of plenary, said the leadership decided that the House should adjourn for the rest of the week to enable them pay proper respect to their departed colleagues.

He, however, said the adjournment will not affect the committee works as all committees are expected to continue their work.
