Sanwo-Olu’s wife, Tinubu-Ojo praise Jakande’s legacies

Lagos State Governor’s wife Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday condoled with the family of the first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

According to her, the late former governor would forever be remembered for his service to humanity.

“We thank God for your life, Baba. Rest in peace,” she stated in the condolence register.

Also on Tuesday, members of the Lagos State Market Women Association were at the Ilupeju, Lagos home of the late Jakande to console his widow Alhaja Abimbola. The women were led by the Iyaloja-General, Chief Folasade Tinubu-Ojo.

According to her, the late Jakande left an indelible mark in the government of Lagos State and that of Nigeria as well.

Describing the late governor as an inspiration, Mrs Tinubu-Ojo said: “Papa represented the people very well. He has impacted so many lives, including the traders. When the news broke on Papa’s passing, the traders were touched. Papa did well. We will continue to talk about his legacies. He was a man of many parts, very simple and contented. I wish mama and the family the fortitude to bear the loss. Baba, goodnight. May the Almighty grant you Aljannah Firdaus!”

A governorship aspirant Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, described Jakande as a “pathfinder”.

According to him, Jakande’s policies and character remain guiding light to political leaders, especially in the state. His words: “Selflessness is something that speaks to Baba’s legacies. With his meagre resources, he was able to touch all sectors of the economy. For us at Lagos4lagos movement, we can’t but take some of those things he did well and emulate. We are happy that we have somebody whose signature projects still speak till tomorrow.”

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has set up a special committee to organise a befitting eight day fidau for Alhaji Jakande.

Jakande, fondly called ‘baba kekere’, died on February 11. He was 91.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso, who spoke of plans towards the prayer, said: “Mr. Governor has set up a special committee, headed by the Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde, to liaise with the deceased’s family, to organise a befitting fidau for the former governor. I am also a member of the committee.

“We will give more details on the planned event as soon as all arrangements are concluded. We are fully in touch with the family members.”
