Relief as Imo gets improved security

By Damian Duruiheoma, Owerri

There seems to be relief amongst the residents of Imo State as security situation in the state is gradually improving.

The state had, before now, been under siege of kidnappers and armed robbers with high profile individuals such as the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Moses Chikwe and many others being kidnapped for ransoms while others were killed.

However, findings by The Nation showed that in the past two weeks, no serious criminal activities, particularly kidnapping and armed robbery, had been reported within the state.

While residents attributed the new development to the end of the Yuletide season, the state police command said the arrival of the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nasiru Mohammed had led to the bursting of kidnap dens across the state.

According to the spokesman of state police command, Orlando Ikeokwu, kidnapping and armed robbery activities reduced since the arrival of CP Mohammed, who assumed office on January 21, 2021.
