Plateau to beef up security in schools

Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has said his administration has no option than to tighten security around schools in the state.
Lalong, who disclosed this during a chat with reporters in Jos, vowed that his administration is determined to tackle insecurity as well as make the state safe for all citizens.
He revealed that as the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, they are collaborating with the Service Chiefs to tackle the prevailing insecurity ravaging the North. According to him, with the current security situation in our schools in the Northern part of the country, his administration is to introduce a robust school security architecture that would make it difficult or impossible for kidnappers to gain entrance into schools.

He said measures are being put in place to guarantee the security of lives in schools through the reintroduction and creation of schools’ awareness club, such as the Boys’ Scout, Girls’ Guide, and Man-o-War, among others, for them to be knowledgeable on the importance of security.
Lalong noted that there is a need for school pupils and students to be trained on proper security measures.
He also hinted that the government will employ 2,000 teachers to boost education standard.
The Governor said the state will leverage the use of vocational schools to achieve meaningful development, through technical and skills acquisition.
Lalong urged communities to embrace peace-building in order to attract development projects from the state.
