Chimaobi Ebisike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged as the winner of the Aba North and South Federal Constituency by-election held at the weekend.

It was gathered that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Returning Officer for the constituency, Prof. Fidelis Okpata from the Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State announced that Chimaobi Ebisike of the PDP polled 10,322 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mascot Uzor Kalu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 3,674 votes.

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate Destiny Nwagwu and Action Alliance (AA) standard-bearer Okey Prestige polled 1,554 and 199 votes to emerge a distant 3rd and 4th, while the candidates of the APM and NRM scored 10 and 13 votes.

Following the poor showing of the APC in the by-election in Abia State, stakeholders of the party from Anambra State have urged the party hierarchy to jettison any plan to field an unpopular candidate in this year’s governorship election in the state.

The party chieftains, operating under the aegis of APC Patriots, Anambra State chapter, said the rancour, which trailed an alleged imposition of a candidate, was responsible for the party’s loss of the Aba North and South Federal Constituency seat to the rival PDP.

In a statement by the Coordinator of the group, Dozie Ikedife and spokesman, Victor Afam Ogene, the group wondered how an aspirant, (Mascot Uzor-Kalu), who was said to have won the APC primaries with 47, 825 votes – as announced by the Bisi Idaomi-led electoral committee – could not poll more than 3, 674 votes in the by-election.
