Murder of ex-chairman: NBA wants killers brought to book

The Nigerian Bar Association ( NBA) has condemned the gruesome murder of the former chairman of NBA Owerri branch, Mr. Ndionyenma Nwankwo in his Owerri office. The branch resolution signed by Mr. J. I. Ogamba and Mr. Chinedu Agu, branch chairman and secretary respectively reads: “Following the gruesome murder of Ndionyenma Nwankwo, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Owerri, the Bar convened an emergency general and resolved as follows:
“The NBA Owerri condemns the gruesome murder of Ndionyenma Nwankwo on February 6 , 2021 in his office in Owerri
“We express our gratitude to the Commissioner of Police of Imo State and the men of the Nigerian Police Force for their timely intervention, and call upon them and other security agencies to deploy all the requisite resources to ensure that the culprits are tracked and brought to book
“That we wish to thank His Excellency the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice of Imo State, the President and General Secretary of the NBA and other NBA Chairmen across the Federation for their concern, empathy and solidarity in these our trying moments.
“Our infinite gratitude also goes to the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State, the President of the Customary Court of Appeal of Imo State, all Judges of both Federal and State Courts in Imo State, Magistrates and Chairmen of Customary Courts in the state for their co-operation in the cancellation of all court sittings in the state to capture the collective melancholic moods of lawyers in the state.
“That however, we implore the Governor of Imo State and the Attorney General of Imo State to do all that is necessary in assisting the Police and the security agencies in unearthing the perpetrators of this heinous crime
“We, therefore, use this opportunity to decry the worsening insecurity situation across the country and the state and the increasing wave of violent crimes and urge the government to do more to improve the security of lives and property” NBA stated.
