Lecturer’s murder: UNIMAID assures staff, students of safety

The University of Maiduguri has reassured students and staff about their security and safety following the tragic murder of a senior lecturer, Dr Abdulkadir Kamar, from the Department of Physical and Health Education.

The incident occurred in his office on Sunday evening, and the Borno State Police Command said it has arrested eight individuals in connection with it.

In a statement by its Director of Radio and Public Relations, Prof Danjuma Gambo, the university urged everyone within and outside the institution to remain calm and continue their normal activities.

Gambo said the university management received a report on Monday, April 1, 2024, about Dr Abdulkadir’s lifeless body found in his office after an alert from his family.

An investigation by the police and other security agencies is ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death, he said.

Gambo advised all staff and students to stay calm and carry on with their legitimate activities, as the university collaborates with relevant security agencies to determine the facts.
