‘Lagos enjoying expertise of senior citizens’

Lagos State will continue to tap into the experiences and expertise of its senior citizens to deliver optimal service to the people, the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola has said.
He spoke at the seventh Annual General Meeting (AGM) and inauguration of third executive committee of the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries (ALARHOSPS) at the Adeyemi Bero auditorium in Alaina, Ikeja.
Muri-Okunola said: “Engagement of stakeholders in determining government activities is paramount to us in Lagos. One of the important stakeholders are our senior citizens, especially those who passed through the annals of our public service.
“The initiative behind establishing ALARHOSPS is that government cannot do it alone and all hand must be on deck. I urge them to continue to partner Lagos. We rely on them, their advice and guidance in policy formulations and service delivery to the people of Lagos. Their knowledge is measureless; their time-tested experiences gathered over the years to deliver quality public service that we are benefiting from.
“The positive impact of ALARHOSPS over the years cannot but be appreciated and commended. Our expectations should not be less given the calibre of its membership and leadership.”
New President Femi Olugbile promised to build on the success of his predecessor, and take the association to higher heights.
He said: “It’s an exciting challenge having to follow in the footsteps of true leaders in public service. It’s doable and I feel inspired to do it. I believe we will take off from the level which our predecessors attained and do higher things. Excellence evolves, it is not static. It’s a work in progress and our challenge is to lead the next phase of that work.
The association remains a work in progress. With my colleagues in the incoming executive committee, we will carry on the work from where the outgoing executives are leaving off, taking pains to see that there is a seamless transition and that we are able to build on their attainments. The reward for good work is more work. In reality, this means we expect ourselves to have our hands full, as a direct ‘consequence’ of the good work that has been done already. ”
Olugbile takes over from Mohammed Ajibola Olagbaye.
