Kidnappers of Edo PDP chairman demand N500m
The kidnappers of Dr Tony Aziegbemi, the Edo State chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), have reportedly demanded the sum of N500 million ransom to release him.
The demand came eight days after he was kidnapped.
A family source who did not want his name in print said Aziegbemi kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded N500 million.
Police spokesperson in Edo State, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the police were not aware of any demand from kidnappers.
“I am not aware of any ransom demand. I can only confirm what I am aware of,” he said.
A family member, who identified himself as Sam Ogbeiye, urged the security agents to intensify efforts to secure his freedom unhurt.
Aziegbemi was kidnapped on March 15 by gunmen while returning home after a night meeting at the Government House in Benin.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, said the police tactical team, in collaboration with vigilante groups and hunters, was combing the bush to rescue the victim unhurt.
