How gunmen killed family of six in Osun

Gunmen rained bullets on the six family members killed over the weekend at Wasinmi village, Ikire in the Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State inside the mosque, THE NATION has reliably gathered.

It was also learnt each of them was shot more than seven times each before the attackers fled the scene.

Chairman Committee on Peaceful Co-Existence between Fulani/Bororo and Crop Farmers in Osun State, Hon Oguntola Toogun, disclosed these to THE NATION.

Toogun, who led Osun delegates for burial of the victims in Ilorin capital of Kwara State on Monday, disclosed the three grandchildren were buried at Muslim burial ground in Ilorin while the grandfather and his two wives were buried beside the mosques in the estate owned by the deceased.

He identified the deceased as Alh Yaya Momodu (grandfather); Alhaja Adamo Yaya (wife); Alhaja Awawu Yaya(wife); Mumini Ibrahim, Mumini Abdulahi and Moriamo Ibrahim (grandchildren).

He said: “The injured son is in stable condition and Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has provided the needed support for the victim.

“One person has been arrested in connection with the crime and the security operatives are still in the area to arrest perpetrators”.

Speaking on a private radio station in Osogbo, Rave FM, during a Yoruba talk show programme, Oro Oselu (Politics Talk), Toogun recounted the gunmen carried out the act around 10:30pm on Saturday.

He said: “The gunmen dragged the grandfather, his two wives and four grandchildren were dragged out from their separate houses and shot.

“They were later taken inside the mosque to rain bullets on them. One of the four grandchildren survived but injured.

“The grandfather has been very helpful to the state government in resolving problems and even exposing criminals.”

Spokesperson of Osun Police Command, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola, assured police were intensifying efforts to arrest culprits.
