Health workers in Zamfara protest not getting paid

The health union at the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, has started a nonviolent protest about unpaid wages.

The union had earlier given the Zamfara State Government a week to pay back their members’ unpaid salaries and fix the half-paying of some of them.

The union claimed that despite several guarantees, nothing was done after they alerted the appropriate authorities about the problem.

They claimed that they had to hold the peaceful protest since the appropriate authorities had been given a 24-hour deadline to respond to their demands.

In addition to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, it was learned that other other hospitals in the State are also failing to pay their employees’ salaries on time for extended periods of time.
