Gunmen kill 1, kidnap 7 on Ogun highway

Gunmen have reportedly killed one person and abducted seven others along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway.

It was gathered that the gunmen laid ambush along the highway and attacked travellers in between Ilishan, Ceplast industry and Iperu junction axis of the expressway.

One of the victims of the incident which occurred on Friday, narrated his ordeal in the hands of their abductors in an audio message which had since gone viral.

 The unnamed victim said the incident happened while they were on their way to Lagos.

According to him, the assailants, who were shooting sporadically, stopped their vehicle and herded them into the bush.

“This incident happened around five in the evening. They were armed with AK 47 rifles, shooting heavily. They even killed one person who was inside a Lexus car. They marched about seven of us into the bush.

The police spokesman in Ogun State, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident on Monday.

Odutola said the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, had directed the tactical team and the mobile squad to go after the gunmen.
