Gov Zulum launches 113km Maiduguri ring road, pays N1bn compensation

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has initiated the construction of the 113km Maiduguri Ring Road. The project aims to alleviate congestion within the city, accommodate population influx, and address housing shortages.

During the flag-off ceremony held along the Maiduguri-Kano road, Governor Zulum emphasised the importance of decongesting the city to accommodate the growing population influx.

He also announced the allocation of N1 billion in compensation to farmers affected by the road construction, marking the first phase of a total compensation package valued at N1.6 billion.

Governor Zulum highlighted the significance of the Maiduguri Ring Road project in enhancing the city’s infrastructure and facilitating economic development.

The initial phase, spanning 16.5 kilometers, represents the commencement of a larger endeavour aimed at constructing a 113km ring road around Maiduguri.

Addressing concerns about urban planning and infrastructure management, Governor Zulum directed the Borno Geographic Information System (BOGIS) to ensure meticulous layout planning, with provisions for essential amenities such as drainage systems, commercial areas, and mosques.

He emphasized the importance of adhering to high-quality standards to avoid past mistakes and prevent congestion in the city centre.
