Gavi commits to lifesaving vaccines for Nigerian children

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has committed to working with the federal government to ensure that every child in Nigeria is protected against vaccine preventable diseases.

The chief executive officer of Gavi, Dr Sania Nishtar, said this during her visit to a primary health care centre and palace of the district head of Mabushi, Abuja.

She said, “I and my colleagues represent an organisation that is dedicated to bringing vaccination to every child in the world. As we know, vaccination protects against deadly diseases. And we are very committed to working with the government of Nigeria to ensure that every child on the Nigerian soil is vaccinated against vaccine preventable diseases.”

She said Gavi as an international organisation was also committed to collaborating with the government towards supporting the country’s efforts in the health sector.

The Coordinating Minister of Health, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, applauded Gavi for its long term partnership with Nigeria in making vaccines available to the country.

Pate, who was represented by the executive director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Muyi Aina, also commended Gavi for the initiative of visiting health facilities in the country to understand the challenges and help in supporting the country’s efforts.

The Hakimi of Mabushi, Hassan Dangana Mabushi, described the visit as historic. He called on the government and its partners to upgrade the health facility in the community and employ its youths in the health sector.
