FG urged to use Poly research findings for national devt

The federal government has been urged to explore the various research efforts in various polytechnics for national growth and development.

The Rector, Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, Dr Usman Sani Tunga stated this during the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) Week, national conference and fund-raising ceremony for the ASUP Secretariat Building in Birnin Kebbi.

He said the polytechnic plays a vital role in national development and should be accorded the necessary funds to promote national development.

The rector said the spate of banditry, insurgency and other criminalities called for decisive action.

He, therefore, challenged the participants to brainstorm on issues of national development and security as no nation can grow without peace.

The state’s governor, Nasiru Idris, who was represented by his deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar, said the polytechnics have the mandate of producing higher and middle manpower and have the potential to drive the quest for economic and social development through the use of science, technology and management the nation’s growth.

He said, “As a former teacher, I commend the polytechnics for turning out graduates to contribute to national growth”.
