FG to reconnect 8 Sokoto LGAs to national grid after a decade’s blackout

The federal government has pledged to restore electricity in eight local government areas in Sokoto State that have been without power for a decade.

The pledge came after the state governor, Ahmed Aliyu, raised the issue during the official visit of the Minister of Power, Adelabu Adebayo, recently.

A delegation from the Ministry of Power was dispatched to assess the affected areas to reinstate electricity supply.

Speaking during the assessment exercise at the weekend in Sokoto, Mustafa Baba Umarah, the Director of Distribution at the Federal Ministry of Power, said the federal government’s team would carefully study the nature of the problems causing the blackout in the affected communities and report back for necessary action.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that all Nigerians have access to electricity, regardless of their location.

Sanusi Dan Fulani, the state’s Commissioner for Energy, said restoring electricity in these areas aligns with the efforts of Governor Aliyu’s administration to stimulate economic activities, particularly in rural areas.

Dan Fulani underscored the importance of electricity supply for societal development, especially in the eastern zone of the state, known as the food basket.

To ensure the success of the restoration project, the commissioner appealed for support from the benefiting communities.

The eight local government areas earmarked for reconnection to the national grid include Isa, Sabon Birni, Goronyo, Wurno, Rabah, Gada, Illela and Gwadabawa.
