Edo: Father arrested for posting daughter’s nudes

Operatives of the Edo State police command have arrested a 28-year-old father whose identity is yet to be ascertained for allegedly uploading of nude pictures of his four-year-old daughter on social media.

It was gathered that the suspect was arrested at Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West local government of Edo State.

The 28-year-old father allegedly took the four-year-old daughter to a hotel, removed her clothes, took her picture and uploaded it on his Instagram handle, @officialsarah_ig, where it raised controversy.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect was in detention.

“It is true, we have made arrest of the suspect, investigation is ongoing at Auchi police station to unravel the reason why the suspect did that,” he said.

When asked the name of the suspect, he said it would be disclosed later.

Meanwhile a statement, the force public relations officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the action of the father.

“The Nigeria Police Force acknowledges the public outcry in response to disturbing images and videos involving a 4-year-old child with the Instagram handle @officialsarah_ig, circulating on social media.

According to him, the content portrays the young child in inappropriate poses, akin to adult contents.

He said, “As the investigation unfolds, it is imperative to establish proactive measures to guide and counsel parents, preventing the proliferation of such anomalies in our society.”

While emphasizing the importance of implementing support systems for parents and guardians to protect the safety and well-being of their children, he advised caregivers to also prioritize the security of minors and seek assistance or guidance when required.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding children and upholding the law,” he said.
