Alleged terrorists’ negotiator, Mamu, seeks transfer from DSS custody

An alleged terrorist negotiator, Tukur Mamu, has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to order his transfer from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

In an application by his counsel, Abdul Mohammed (SAN), on Monday, Mamu asked Justice Inyang Ekwo to vary his remand to the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kuje instead of the DSS facility.

Mohammed also informed the court that the order of December 19, 2023, to allow Mamu access to his physician had not been obeyed by the DSS, which had caused his health to deteriorate.

Following the departure of the prosecution counsel, David Kaswe, from the court without responding to the defence counsel’s application and the court’s permission, Justice Ekwo expressed shock at the development.

He subsequently fixed May 20, for hearing of the transfer application.

Daily Trust reports that Mamu is facing a 10-count charge bordering on terrorism, including receiving ransom from families of victims of the Kaduna train attack of March 28, 2022, dealing with terrorist funds, obstructing the activities of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) committee to negotiate those who kept the victims of the train attack, exchanging voice notes with Boko Haram spokesperson, among others.
