For Prince Kayode Moshood Akiolu, member, House of Representatives, Lagos Island Federal Constituency II, what defines public office is efficient service delivery to the people.

Little wonder the scion of the Lagos monarch, who, two years ago during the political hustings, made a promise to give a facelift to schools within his constituents, didn’t have any qualms fulfilling the promise.

As to be expected, all roads led to Epetedo High School on Adeniji-Adele axis of Lagos Island recently, as the trained lawyer came to commission some projects, gifted motorcycles to policemen to aid their logistics in terms of crime fighting, as well as empowered skilled artisans.

The occasion also had many notable members of the community, including Hon. Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, Deputy Speaker, Lagos House of Assembly, lending their imprimatur of support to the lawmaker. Speaking earlier, Eshinlokun said, “Education is important. We must continue to drum it to the peoples’ ears that education is paramount to their lives. With education in hope for a better life is very possible.”

While lauding Hon. Akiolu for the good gestures, Eshinlokun tasked the community to ensure the projects are well-maintained.

Echoing similar sentiments, Oba Akiolu, who was represented by Prince Ayodele Adedeji Oyekan, son of the late Oba Adeyinka Oyekan and the Bajulaiye of Lagos, said what Hon. Akiolu has done is worthy of emulation by all. “What you (Akiolu) have done here today shows that you’re a worthy son of the palace. All the white cap chiefs are very proud of you.”

Justifying his commitment to his constituents, Hon. Akiolu said “I feel much fulfilled that today, I’m delivering part of democracy dividends to my constituents, which I promised two years ago. For me, this only shows that my people need more and we will continue to strive to make things better.”

Speaking separately, Chairman Lagos East Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Comrade Kamal Salau-Bashua, and one-time chairman of the Lagos Island Local Council Development Area, Hon. Mr. Mufutau Kadiku aka KDK lauded the lawmaker for the good gesture, stressing that it is worthy of emulation.

Also speaking at the event, Principal of Epetedo High School, Babatunde Efuwape, while lauding the lawmaker for the kind gestures, said the new blocks of classrooms would solve the problem of acute shortage of classrooms being experienced in the school.

Efuwape said the gesture would alleviate a lot of sufferings on the part of the school and ensure a more conducive learning environment, especially in this era of COVID-19.

“Before the advent of the project, we had just 6 classrooms and that was grossly inadequate for the over 400 student population in the school.”

Speaking on behalf of the student population, the head boy and head girl of the school, Lateef Orekan and Khadijat Ganiyu said the new project has renewed their hunger to learn.

Beneficiaries of the lawmaker’s empowerment largesse include Gansi John from Badagry, Yusuf Sharafadeen embroidery tailor from Kwara State and Taiwo Olumegbon, also a tailor, who got N10, 000 cash to support his start-up.

Thirty teachers from the districts also benefitted from ICT training courtesy of the lawmaker.
