AGF charges two Italians with forgery

The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has filed a forgery charge against two Italians, Mr Paolo Brono and Gianfranco Albertazzi at a Federal High Court in Lagos.

In six counts, the AGF alleged that Brono, Albertazzi, their firm – Borini Promo & Company – and one A. Prono, said to be at large, of forging of a Nigerian businessman’s signature and his firm’s documents.

According to the charge marked FHC/L/338c/2020, the Italians imitated the signature of one Christopher Uzodike, as well as several invoices belonging to his firm, Land Technology Ltd.

They were said to have forged the firm’s invoices with serial numbers 00019; 00024; 00012; 00139 and 0034 and Uzodike’s signature, with an intent that it may be acted upon as genuine to Uzodike’s prejudice.

The defendants were alleged to have committed the offences between 2008 and 2009, in Lagos.

The offences, according to the AGF’s counsel, Mrs. Kehinde Bode-Ayeni, contravened sections 3(6) and 1(2)(c) and were punishable under section 1(10) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, 2004.

The defendants’ arraignment, which was scheduled for Thursday, could not proceed following their non-appearance in court.

Bode-Ayeni applied to the court for a short adjournment so that the defendants can be produced to take their plea.

Granting her prayer, Justice Liman fixed March 17 for their arraignment.
