Two toilet digger die in soakaway pit in Kano
In Kano State, two brothers drowned and die in a sewage tank.
Musa Abdullahi, 27, and Rabiu Abdullahi, 17, who were the victims, were proclaimed dead on Saturday.
Saminu Abdullahi, the Kano State Fire Service’s public relations officer, confirmed the incident in Kano via a press release on Sunday. He said the service had received a distress call from Na Musa Abdullahi sir Muhd informing them that a toilet digger had become stuck in a pit toilet while draining it.
“On Saturday, January 21, 2023, the state Fire Service control room received an emergency call at about 20:41 hrs from Na Musa Abdullahi sir Muhammad.
He reported an incident at Sabon Gari Market, Layin Abacha, Fagge Local Government Area, when our men arrived at the scene, at about 20:47hrs, they discovered that two biological brothers were working in a public convenience pit toilet and were discovered trapped in a wide deep sock-away while draining the suck-away chamber.”

While Abdullahi Rabiu, his partner and brother, who is around 17 years old, attempted to rescue his brother, Musa Abdullahi, who is about 27 years old, was unluckily also stuck in the soak-away inner chamber.
The brothers were successfully saved by fire fighters after they swung into action, but they were both unconscious when they were brought to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist hospital, where the doctors on call duty at the Emergency department proclaimed them both dead.
Meanwhile, the remains of both victims have been handed over to one Inspector Abubakar Alhassan of Sabon Gari Police Division to trace and hand over to their immediate family.
The cause of the incident was attributable to a high degree of temperature and lack of oxygen inside the soakaway pit.
