Many hurt as Ortom’s convoy involved in accident

Several persons including two members of the Benue State House of Assembly were injured when the convoy of the state governor, Samuel Ortom, was involved in a car crash.

The accident occurred on Friday morning when the governor and the Peoples Democratic Party supporters were traveling to the Utokon community of Ado Local Government Area in continuation of the party governorship campaign rally.

Our correspondent reports that the incident occurred when the driver of a branded bus fully loaded with PDP supporters lost control and rammed into three vehicles; a Jeep, a security vehicle, and another bus in the convoy.

Injuries to a number of people, including state legislators from Kwande West and Guma, were reported.

Other vehicles were also impacted by the incident, which occurred on Friday at precisely 10:50 am.

Along with other high-ranking representatives of the state’s government and political parties, the motorcade in the convoy included the deputy governor of the state, Engr. Benson Abounu; Senator Abba Moro; members of the House of Representatives and House of Assembly from the Benue South district.

While the remainder of the group continued on their journey, an ambulance belonging to the convoy transported the injured people to the hospital.
