Slain Rivers DPO: Police confirm arrest of cult member

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected member of the cult gang who killed the late Ahoada Divisional Police Officer, Superintendent of Police, (SP) Bako Angbashim.

The state Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement, said operatives of the Command, acted on actionable information that one of the suspects was about to be lynched to death by an angry mob in Edoaha community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state.

Iringe-Koko said subsequently, a team of policemen swung into action to rescue the suspect who was about to be burnt with a tyre on his neck.

She said he was rescued on Tuesday and brought to the police station in Ahoada where he made useful statements.

The Police statement said, “The suspect was later transferred to the state Criminal Investigative Department for discrete investigation, with a view to apprehending the fleeing kingpin and his gang members and recovering their operational weapons.”

Recall that late SP Angbashim was killed by a suspected cult group in Odiemude community, Ahoada East local government area of Rivers State.

Angbashim, who was the DPO of the area was mutilated by the criminals.

He was known for his doggedness in fighting crime in the Ogoni axis of the state before being transferred to Ahoada where he was killed.
