Naira abuse: EFCC nabs woman in Gombe
Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested a woman for allegedly abusing the naira in Gombe State.
The suspect, Janty Emmanuel, was arrested on Monday by investigators from the anti-graft’s Gombe Zonal Command.
EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to him, “She was arrested on Monday, May 20, 2024 following intelligence that spotted her spraying Naira notes at a social event.
“Upon arrest, the suspect was shown the video where she was dancing at G-Connect, Tumfure, Gombe State and spraying Naira notes of N1000 denomination.
“She admitted committing the crime. She will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
DAILY POST reports that the anti-graft agency has, of recent, clamped down on Nigerians abusing the local currency, including prominent figures.
Among them is Bobrisky who was on April 12 sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option of fine for abusing the Nigerian currency.
Also, the commission clamped down on socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, aka Cubana Chief Priest, over alleged naira abuse but the two parties opted to settle out of court.
