Electrician sentenced to life in prison for raping benefactor’s daughter

Olamide Ayodele, a 27-year-old electrician, was found guilty and given a life sentence by Justice Abiola Soladoye of an Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday for defiling his benefactor’s 8-year-old daughter.

The judge concluded that the prosecution had established the guilt of the defendant on the defilement accusation.

According to Justice Soladoye, the court determined that the prosecution witnesses’ testimony was credible and coherent.

She said, “The defendant is immoral, a mega liar, ungrateful, unkind, ruthless and rash in his conduct considering the survivor’s father picked him from the streets and treated him like one of his children.

“The court particularly noted that the attempts of the defence to pin the offence on the survivor’s brother were unsuccessful.

“The attempt of the defence to also mislead the court by stating that the evidence of the survivor’s brother was expunged when in fact it was not. This was a complete misrepresentation of the records of the court.

“Lastly, the evidence of the defendant was wrought with lies and unreliable as he desperately sought to distance himself from the alleged offence.

“I am satisfied that the prosecution has proved the ingredients of defilement against the defendant.

“I hereby find the defendant guilty as charged; he is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment.”

The convict was additionally ordered by the judge to be recorded in the state’s database of sexual offenders.

Mrs. Olufunke Adegoke and Ms. Abimbola Abolade, attorneys for the state, informed the court that the conviction occurred on January 19, 2020, at or about 3 p.m. on Ofini Street in Ijaiye, Meiran, Lagos.

According to the prosecution, the defendant entered the room where the victim was resting in the afternoon, covered her mouth with a cloth, defiled her, and then left the property to watch football in a viewing facility.

The grandma of the survivor entered the room, discovered her lying in a pool of blood, and called the police, according to the prosecutor.

The defendant testified as the only witness for the defense during the trial while the prosecution called five witnesses.
