Adamawa: Police takes fight against phone snatchers to Mubi, arrest 3

The Adamawa State Police Command has extended its fight against young gangsters called Shila Boys beyond the capital, Yola, to Mubi, another major urban centre in the state.

Shila Boys who typically operate in urban centres where they are attracted to big cell phones, are known to haunt mostly the metropolitan local government areas of Yola North, Yola South and Girei, but appear to be branching out to other major centres of the state, including Mubi North and Mubi South LGAs in the northern part of the state and Numan LGA in the south.

The Command said in a statement on Wednesday that security surveillance in Mubi last Saturday, May 4, led to the arrest of three suspects.

The statement, signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, said, “In response to escalating criminal activities linked to the Shilla Boys within the Adamawa state metropolitan area, the Adamawa State Police Command has taken decisive action by extending its efforts to Mubi North and South Respectively.

“This measures has yielded a positive result as three suspects apprehended in connection to Shilla related activities.”

The statement explained that the suspects had on 4/05/2024 attacked and snatched a phone from one Holy Ishyaku, a student of College of Health and Technology Mubi.

“The arrests were made immediately after the attack on the victim,” the Police stated.

The police assured that it remains committed to combating all criminal activities and ensuring the safety of all residents.
