NDIC takes financial literacy campaign to Sokoto schools

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has taken its financial literacy campaign to girls secondary schools in Sokoto state.

Addressing the students at the Hafsatu Ahmadu Model Arabic Secondary School, Sokoto, NDIC Zonal Controller, Mr Umar Kaoje-Bello, regretted that, the north was still lagging behind in terms of financial literacy.

“This is one of the reasons why there is few micro finance banks in the region,” he said

According to him, they brought the campaign to schools in order to catch them young.

He advised the students to embrace financial savings, budgeting habits and develop financial discipline at all times for a productive and better living.

Kaoje-Bello further enjoined them to be wary of financial frauds, which mostly occur through online banking, Point-of-Service operators among others.

In his contribution, the Branch Controller, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sokoto, Mr Mr Dahiru Usman, said commercial banks and microfinance institutions were available in the country with strict regulations on safeguarding deposits and financial transactions.

The school Principal, Hajia Hadiza Bature, described the event as beneficial and urged the students to take advantage of the event to change their attitude to saving money.
