Edo Assembly summons Disco, TCN over blackout

The Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), has summoned the management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Plc and that of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to appear before it to explain poor power supply being experienced in the state.

The house Speaker Hon. Blessing Agbebaku who gave the order during plenary, also said the BEDC would explain why it has refused to make the prepaid metres available in the state.

The order followed the deposition of the member representing Uhunmwonde Constituency, Hon. Kaycee Osamwonyi under matters of urgent public importance.

Osamwonyi in his address called on the house to prevail on BEDC to as a matter of urgency provide the indigenes of the state with prepaid meters.

He added that the BEDC should be made to put a halt to estimated billing, saying it has brought untold hardship to the people and crippled commercial activities in the state.

Following the deliberation, the house concluded that the management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company of Nigeria and the Transmission Company of Nigeria should appear before it on March 20.

It would be recalled that the BEDC, had in one of its earlier circulars pleaded with the residents to bear with the company till January 7 before light would be stabilized following the upgrading of its facilities in the state.
