CIPM seeks dialogue over looming NLC/TUC strike

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) Thursday called for dialogue over the fresh strike notice issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The Labour movement had declared a nationwide strike from November 14 over the attack on the NLC president, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State last week.

The aviation unions had immediately announced a shutdown of all flights in and out of Owerri following the directive of the labour movement.

But CIPM president and chairman of the governing council, Olusegun Mojeed, who spoke during a briefing in Lagos ahead of its 55th anniversary and international conference/exhibition also vowed to end quackery in the profession.

On the proposed strike by NLC, it called on all stakeholders to return to the dialogue table so as not to give room for anarchy.

“Have we exhausted the process of dialogue? This new strike we are about to embark on is for what? Where is the panel from NLC that investigated that truly Comrade Ajaero was brutalised by the police? There was a protest and a counter-protest, so we should be able to find out,” the CIPM president said. 

Speaking on the 55th anniversary of the institution, he stressed that the period of using moral persuasion to stop unqualified and uncertified entities from defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians is over as the institute is fully ready to start enforcing its rules and regulations.
