AEDC threatens to disconnect villa, DSS, military barracks, others over N47.1bn debt

The management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has given a 10 days’ notice to 86 government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to pay up the N47.1bn electricity debt they owe or risk disconnection.

An advertorial by the company yesterday said the notice was issued after the MDAs failed to pay up their outstanding balance for December.

“The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) PLC is constrained to do this publication with the details of Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies with long outstanding unpaid bills for services rendered to them through the provision of electricity supply in that our previous attempts to make them honour their obligations have not achieved the desired result.”

“The relevant MDAs (as listed above) are hereby given a notice that AEDC shall after the expiration of 10 days from the date of this publication, that is, after Wednesday, 28th February 2024, embark on disconnection of our services to them until they discharge their obligations to us by paying their debts,” it said.

Top of the list of its debtors is the Chief of Defence Staff-Barracks and Military Formations with 12bn debt followed by the Ministry of FCT with N7.5bn debt.

Next is the Ministry of Finance with N5.4bn, then Niger State Governor Abuja Liaison Office with N3.4bn.

Others include; Ministry of State Petroleum, N2.1bn, Ministry of Education, N1.8bn, CBN governor, N1.5bn, Nigeria Police Force, N1.3bn, Kogi State Governor-Abuja Liaison Office, N1.3bn; Ministry of Health, N1.1bn; Clerk of National Assembly, N1bn; Presidential Villa, 923.8m, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, N846.1m, among others.
